Fire Safety Tips
Home Fire Safety
Protecting your home and family from fire starts with prevention and preparation. Follow these essential tips from El Dorado Fire Rescue.
Smoke Alarms
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries at least once a year. Replace the entire alarm unit every 10 years.
Escape Planning
Create and practice a home fire escape plan with your family. Identify two exits from every room and establish a meeting place outside. Practice your plan at least twice a year.
Kitchen Safety
Never leave cooking unattended. Keep flammable materials away from the stovetop. Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and know how to use it. If a pan catches fire, slide a lid over it and turn off the burner.
Wildfire Preparedness
Living in the El Dorado community means being aware of wildfire risk. Create defensible space around your home by clearing vegetation within 30 feet. Keep gutters clean and maintain your roof. Have a go-bag ready and know your evacuation routes.
