Rescue 1 is El Dorado Fire Rescue's heavy rescue unit — our most technically equipped apparatus. A heavy rescue carries a broad array of specialized tools and equipment that are not carried on standard fire engines or ambulances. It deploys for technical rescue incidents including vehicle extrication, confined space rescue, rope rescue, trench collapse, and structural collapse events.
Capabilities
- Vehicle and machinery extrication — hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life), cribbing, stabilization
- High-angle and low-angle rope rescue — ropes, rigging, litters, mechanical advantage systems
- Confined space rescue — atmospheric monitoring, supplied air, tripod and retrieval systems
- Trench rescue — shoring panels, pneumatic shores, soil assessment equipment
- Structural collapse search and rescue
- Hazardous materials support — Level A/B suits, air monitoring, decon equipment
- Mass casualty incident support
- Large-format lighting and generator for extended operations
