Overview

Engine 731 is a heavy-duty Type 3 wildland engine assigned to Station 2. NWCG Type 3 engines are the most capable of the wildland engine classifications, bridging the gap between full structural engines and the smaller, lighter Type 6 engines. Engine 731 is well-suited for extended wildland fire operations, structure protection in the interface, and mutual-aid deployments to regional and state wildland incidents.

Capabilities

  • Extended wildland fire suppression — initial and extended attack
  • Structure protection in the wildland-urban interface
  • Pump-and-roll wildland attack operations
  • Off-road access on unpaved and rough terrain
  • State and federal mutual-aid deployments (NWCG compliant)
  • Mobile water supply in areas without hydrant access

NWCG Type 3 Engine Standards

NWCG Type 3 engines are required to carry a minimum of 500 gallons of water and meet pump capacity and staffing standards defined in the Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations (Red Book). Engine 731 meets these standards for state and federal dispatch.
